Black Forest Brownies

Growing up, I always loved Black Forest Cake for birthday desserts, and my love for cherries and chocolate has not gone far – these Black Forest Brownies are full of cherries and dark chocolate.

These brownies are sweetened with dates and dark cherries, so there is no processed sugar in the batter. They are vegan, as always, which means no egg, no dairy, no honey, and no meat is used in this recipe.

These cherry brownies are fudgy and delicious, nobody would guess they were vegan, let alone made without processed sugar.
Here is The Home Baked Vegan’s recipe for Black Forest Brownies:

Ingredients:
1/4 Cup Chopped Pitted Dates
3/4 Cup* Chopped Pitted Dark Cherries (Fresh or Frozen)
1/2 Cup Water
3/4 Cup Cashew Milk
3/4 Cup Cocoa Powder
1 Cup Whole Wheat Flour
1 tsp Baking Powder
1/2 Cup Dark Chocolate Chips (Optional)

Method:
Preheat oven to 350′

In a food processor or high powered blender, blend dates, water, and 1/4 Cup* of cherries (save 1/2 cup of the cherries for later). Blend until smooth.
In a large bowl, sift together the cocoa powder, flour, and baking powder.
Pour the mixture from the blender, into the dry ingredients, and mix.
Add the cashew milk and mix.
Stir in the remaining cherries and the chocolate chips.
Pour batter into an 8″ square pan.
Bake at 350′ for 20 minutes.
Let cool before removing from pan.
Enjoy!
