Black Bean Veggie Burgers


The weather is warming up, and that means it’s burger season! I tested out a new recipe today for Black Bean Burger Patties, and they turned out better than I expected. These Black Bean Veggie Burgers were full of flavour, and held their shape very well. 




These Black Bean Burger Patties would go great on a bun with your favourite burger toppings, or enjoy them ‘naked’ with a couple side dishes for dinner. I enjoyed my Black Bean Burger Patties with rice and cilantro sauce  and a side of salad. 

Here is the recipe for The Home Baked Vegan’s Black Bean Veggie Burger:




Ingredients:
3 Cups Black Beans (Cooked or Canned)
1/2 Cup Bread Crumbs
1 Tbsp Garlic Powder
1 Tbsp Dried Oregano
2 tsp Ground Cumin
1/2 tsp Salt
1 Tbsp Ground Flax
3 Tbsp Water
3 Tbsp Vegetable Oil


Method:

In a small bowl, mix together the flax and water. Set aside. 

In a medium bowl, mash the beans with a potato masher. 

Add the garlic, oregano, cumin, salt, bread crumbs and the flax water that you mixed together in step one, and mash until combined. Feel free to use your hands to get the ingredients evenly distributed. 

Form the mixture into patties approximately 2” diameter. This should make approximately 9 patties. 

At this point, you can cover them with plastic wrap and refrigerate for later, or you can move on to the next step and cook them right away. 

Preheat the oven to 400’ 

Using a pastry brush, lightly coat both sides of each burger patty with oil. 

Place on a parchment or silicone lined baking sheet, and bake for 30 minutes flipping the patties over after 15 minutes of baking.
